Department Structure:  Angul District has been created newly since 1.4.1993 bifurcating from the mother Dist. Dhenkanal. Now District Sports Office is functioning at the District Head Quarter locating at Angul Stadium.

1. Angul District Athletic Association

A Series of activities under taken by the Angul District  Athletic Association & some of  major achievements are given below.

1994      

 i) Angul District Athletic Assn, organized All India Santosh Trophy Tournament at Angul Stadium in    associated with Orissa Football Association from 13th to 18th Feb, 1994.

 ii)  All Orissa Table Tennis championship at NALCO Nagar in associate with all Orissa T.T. Assn.

iii) Angul district selected one player of Table Tennis and deputed to participate in the Junior National Table tennis Championship held at Bangalore.

1995   

 i)  Organized Inter District Football tournament held at Kadampadia from 26.12.95 to 7.1.1996 with the help of Orissa Football Association.

ii) Organized All Orissa Indian Style Wrestling Championship from 13th to 24th March, 1995 at Angul Stadium.

iii) For the first time, Angul District participated in the Inter District Football tournament and qualified fro the final which was played between  Rourkela vs. Angul and became Runners-up in the tie breaker.

1996

i) Organized All India Kalinga Cup Football Tournament held at Kadampadia from 11.2.1996 to 18.2.1996 and for the first time, Angul District Athletic Association Foot ball team participated in the All India Kalinga Cup Tournament (national Level).

ii) Angul District Football team participated in the Karanjia Challenge Cup and played final with Birla Tyres, balasore and became Champion.

1997

i) Organized All Orissa Volley Ball tournament which was held at Nalco Nagar and Talcher Town from 1.12.97 to 4.12.97 with the support of Orissa Volley Ball Association.

ii) All Orissa Basket ball Championship was organised by Angul District Athletic Association from 20.12.97 to 23.12.97 at NTPC, Kaniha.

1998

i) For the second time this Association organized All India Kalinga Cup Tournament (National level) at Angul Stadium from 24.3.98 to 30.3.98.

ii) Organized All Orissa Cycle Expedition (Orissa Abhijan-1998) from 22nd November to 27th December 1998 in which 3 youths covered 3500 KMs. within the State of Orissa covering 30 Districts.

iii) For the second time, Angul District Football team participated in the Inter District Football tournament held at Bargarh and lifted the Runners up Trophy.

iv) Angul district Football team participated in the All Orissa Dillip Memorial Football Tournament held at Deogarh and became Champion defeating Keonjhar District.

1999

 i) Angul District Athletic Association organized All Orissa Body Building Championship Senior Division at Angul Sbhaghar on 27.01.99.

ii) Inter District Football tournament held at Bargarh and Angul District became Runners Up.

iii) Angul District Football team participated in the All India Sahid Memorial Football Tournament held at Bhadrak and became Runners Up.

iv) All India Kissan Memorial Football Tournament was held at Sohela and Angul District team became Runners Up.

2000

i) Angul District Athletic Association organized a Women Exhibition Football match between India vs.. Rest of India in aid of Chief Minister's Cyclone Relief Fund on 4.2.2000 with assistance from Orissa Women Football Association.

2001

i) Angul District Athletic Association organized the All Orissa table Tennis Championship at Nalco Nagar from 22nd November to 25th November, 2001.

2002

i) Angul District Athletic Association organized the Senior Inter District Football Tournament "Sahani Cup" at Angul Stadium from 17th March to 25th March, 2002.

ii) During the year 2002, Senior Inter District Football Tournament was held at four Sub-Divisional headquarters i.e. Angul, Talcher, Athamallick, Pallahara from 17.3.2002 to 25.3.2002 and  Angul District  declared Joint Winners of Sahani Cup -2002.

iii)  All Orissa Rural Athletic meet was held from 15.11.2002 to 17.11.2002 at Angul Stadium. It was a grand and successful event.

2009-10

            Lastly, this association as a prime sports body of the district is in_charge of organizing district level athletic meet and different tournament inside the district in the game of  Football/Volleyball/Basket ball/Table Tennis/ Kabbadi and Body Buildingand Coaching Camps are also being organized on different events before participation in the State level competitions.

2. Angul District Lawn Tennis Association

         This Association is promoting Lawn Tennis in the district of Angul.

3. Angul District Cricket Association

         It organizes different district level tournament in cricket and sending teams to participate in the State level tournaments organized by Orissa Cricket Association. The Angul District Cricket Association have organized two times Senior Inter District Cricket Tournament i.e. Kalahandi Cup Cricket Tournament and one time Orissa-Assam cricket tournament for Ranji Trouphy at Angul Stadium.

4. Angul District Hockey Association

         The game of Hockey is looking after by this Association and its credibility goes for organising the Senior Inter District Hockey Tournament at Kadam Padia in the year 1997-98.

5. Angul District Wrestling Association

         State level wrestling are being organized by the above association at Talcher and it is sending the teams regulalry for various tournaments.

6. Angul District Carrum Association

         Angul District carrum Association is organizing different district level tournaments and sending the participants for State level tournament.

7. Angul District Bridge Association

          Angul District Bridge Association is conducting the district level bridge competition and sending competitors to participate in the State level championship.

8. Angul District Body Building Association

          Angul District Body Building Association is conducting the district level body building competitions and sending participants to the State level competitions.

Apart from these, State level rural sports tournament/Sports festival for women were also organized in the district with the support from Govt. of Orissa and District Administration.

       As regards to the sports infrastructure of this district, a stadium at the district headquarter at Angul has been constructed to organize different tournaments. A gallery having capacity of 2000 has been constructed with support from  NALCO (National Aluminium Company Ltd.). The construction of a VIP gallery & Club House are under progress  with the support from Sports Department, Govt. of Orissa.  Another Play field named Kadampadia is also available near Angul Stadium and adjacent to Angul Bus Stand to provide facility for organizing different sports and games.

        Sub-divisional Stadium at Talcher with an area of AC. 20.94 Dec. is also available and the construction work is under taken by the M.C.L. authorities. This stadium is for the benefit of the people of Talcher Area.

        A shooting range at Talcher is also existing to provide practice to the shooters of its locality and a team named Talcher Rifle Club is also regularly taking parts in the national level shooting Championship organized by the National Rifle Association.

        A Statium at Pallahara has been constructed by the Govt. in the heart of the Pallahara Town covering an area of Ac. 5.58 dec. which carries a lot of sports activities of Pallahara Sub-Division.

        Proposal for construction of a Sub-Divisional Stadium at Athamallik is pending at the level of the Govt. which will be provided for organization of different sports activities of Athamallik Sub-Division.

        Different sports stadium are also available at different public sector under taking areas such as NALCO NAGAR/F.C.I.Township/N.T.P.C.Kaniha/M.C.L. Talcher area and TTPS Thermal  Township.

         Presently 8 nos. High School play grounds have already been developed for playing purpose with the support of Govt. fund. As per the new policy of the Govt., 21 play fields out of 181 G.P.s. have been identified for development of G.P. level play fields.

        The District sports Officer is functioning at the District headquarters located at Angul Stadium. to look after the organization of rural sports competitions and women sports every year in the guidance of the Sports Deptt. Talents scouting programme for identification of Talents for admission into different sports hostels in Orissa are also being organized.

      State Govt. have awarded to different sports personalities every year in which 4 Nos. of  players  were felicitated during this year. They are (1) Bibhupada garnaik and (2) Bijaya Ku. Garnaik both in the game of Football (3) Khitish Ch. Behera and (4) Birabar Das in the game of Athletics.

        A leading sports organization named as volley ball Home located at Angul is also organizing all India level Volley Ball Tournament consecutively for ten time in which different National level institutional teams are participating and felicitated the promising players/young players and veteran players in the name of Volley Ball. Different youth activities in support of Sports and Youth Services Deptt./ State Youth Welfare Board are also undertaken in this District.
