Angul District Excise Office started its functioning with effect from 1.4.1994 near Collectorate, Angul. The Collector is the Chief Excise Officer of the District & Superintendent of Excise who is the executive head of Excise department in the district is working under the direct administrative control of Collector, Angul. Inspectors of Excise, S.Is of Excise, A.S.Is of Excise and Excise Constables are working in different ranges/charges. The field officers are also working for the collection of Excise revenue as well as to check illicit sale of excisable articles in the district. License Matter :

Collector, Angul is the licensing authority of all the Excise shops subject to approval of State Govt. of Orissa in Excise Department. The following kinds of licenses are being issued in the manner as noted against each.

1	F.L. 'off'', Tari & Bhang shops....... (Licenses issued for financial year)	By way of auction followed by tender followed by negotiation
2	F.L. Club, ON, Hotel ON, .................... Defense Canteen & etc. ( Licenses issued for financial year)	By way of application basis subject to approval of State Govt. of Orissa in Excise Department. (Copy of application form enclosed)
3	Mohua flower Storage Permit.............	Mohua flower storage permit/Sale licenses are being issued for the Calender year by the Supdt. of Excise duly authorized by Collector, Angul. (copy of application form for grant of M.F. storage Permit/Sale license, application form for export of Mohua flower are enclosed herewith)

Function/Activities : i) Collection of excise revenue from the licensed vendors. ii)Inspection of excise shops to ensure proper accounting and to avoaid possible malpractices done by licenses. iii)Detection of excise cases for curbing excise crime in the district.
Success Story/ Achievements : The Excise licenses have been issued to the successful bidders for sale of Foreign liquor as well as Country Spirit. The amount fixed for collection has been achieved. That apart, the M.G. fixed for this district in respect of I.M.F.L/Beer/Counstry Spirit has been fully achieved.
How is the department is helping to common public : i) Collection of excise revenue strengthen financial position of the Govt. which finds its way for socio-economic development. ii) Due to detection of excise cases and preventive measures taken by the field officers, consumption of spurious liquor and dealing with contraband excisable articles by the bootleggers have been controlled in the district of Angul, thereby causing improvement in sale of Govt. supplied of liquor. Besides it prevent common people from drinking liquor from illicit sources.
