Angul Police District formed in the year 1993 being separated from Dhenkanal District with a strength of 245 nos. of force. Sri Desraj Meena, IPS, inaugurated the district on 31.03.1993 as S.P., Angul. There are 19 PSs at the beginning of the district. After enhancement the number of PSs comes to 22. Under the district 515 HGs are working as auxiliary force to the help the district Police in maintaining L/O and traffic duty.

• Law and order situation always anticipated during observance of fares and festivals, visit of VIPs & VVIPs, agitational program’s by various political activities/labour organizations, elections & incidents occurred on sudden provocation. On some occasions law and order situation is also required to be maintained by the police pertaining to some crime and criminals.

• Apart from above, police has to cater the L & O problems relating to industrialisation accidental death & various agitational programs.

• Landoustees are also under taking several agitational programs for enhancement of compensation in respect of their land acquired by respective companies as well as for employment & rehabilitation.

• In case of vehicular accidents on NH-55 & NH-23 the local villagers closed to the accidental spots are resorting to regular rastaroko being organized by the agitators in support of road accident cases, resulting in disruption of vehicular traffic.

• Demonstrations by different political parties organizations before Collectorate, Angul and rally inside Angul are common phenomena which requires deployment of police force.

• In Ganesh Puja, Biswakarma Puja, Durga Puja, Gajalaxmi Puja & Hingula Yatra attracts thousand of devotees, where huge police force being deployed for L & O duty and disciplinary work.

Movement of VIPs on NH-55 & NH-23 is quite frequent for which escort/pilot-cum- protection parties are detailed regularly for security. The CM of Orissa and Governor of Orissa are also visiting this district for which special police arrangement are made with deployment of officers and staff to deal with any eventuality.

• All the field officers of this district have been sensitized to remain alert and maintenances of law and order to avert any unpleasant situation/incident in their respective jurisdictions. L & O prevailing in Industrial Sectors like Jindal under Industrial PS (Nisa), Samal PS, Sponge Iron Plant, Nalco under Nalco PS, Jindal Photo under Kaniha PS, Satakosia Sanctuary ( Tikara Pada) under Purnakote PS.

• The land oustees are demanding enhancement of compensation and employment of their kith and kin under taking several agitational programes. Similarly L & O problems suddenly erupts due to sudden accidents inside MCL, Nalco, Jindal & other industries. To tackle L & O problems as early as possible, one platoon of force stationed at Talcher, Kaniha, Angul each and 1 section at Tikarapada Sanctuary.

Maintenance of L & O, prevention and detection of crime in the district is primary of duty of the Police to facilitate the public for leaving with all peace and tranquility.

Police has remain active all times together to meat any eventuality. In the year 2008-09 duty to prompt and timely action 1446 nos. of hard core criminals arrested in different heinous cases like Dacoity, Murder, Rape, Robbery etc. Property of Rs.1,11,66,232/- have been recovered for the sincere effort of the staff. Preventive measures being taken to curb down the property offence cases by introducing anti-Dacoity, Patrolling, Night patrolling. Loka Adalat/ Mobile Courts being held in the area. Regular raids conducted against cultivation of cannabis/Ganja in the area of Chhendipada/Handapa/Kishorenagar & Thakurgarh PSs with the help of Excise/Forest personnel. Recently 3 to 4 cores of cannabis plant have been destroyed at Chhendipada PS area. 1241 nos. of persons booked U/s-109/110 Cr.P.C in addition to the arrest of harden criminal of the district. Preventive measures also taken under 107 Cr.P.C., 144 Cr.P.C. & 145 Cr.P.C. against the persons. Besides Angul District Police is performing traffic and L& O duty regularly.
